Achtung Baby

The group began work on Achtung Baby in East Berlin, once again with Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois. The work proceeded slowly because the musicians had a long argument, what should be the album. Adam and Larry felt that he should be in line with previous ones, and Bono with Edge, inspired by alternative and European dance music - that is to bring changes in the sound. Week of disputes and uncertainty ended when Edge proposed a new sequence of chords, which quickly turned into a song One. So, in November 1991 released an album Achtung Baby, in many innovative and off-key. It was more personal than the others (Edge divorce, and this could not affect the album), and therefore it was darker earlier work. With a new sound called "four men chopping Joshua Tree". Achtung Baby is one of the most successful album, it, like The Joshua Tree, often called one of the best albums of rock.

Zoo TV Tour (1992-93) was a multimedia show. To make the scene used techniques, which led the audience in shock and confusion: hundreds of screens, flying over the scene upside down "Trabbis" dummy radio tower and scandalous characters: The Fly (Muha), Mirror-Ball Man (Man - mirror ball), and Mr. MacPhisto (Mr MakFisto) (all performed by Bono), to make phone calls to President Bush and the UN. U2 used the show to ridicule the excesses of rock 'n' roll, using these same excesses. Tokenism calls President Bush's speech, as a teleconference with war-torn Sarajevo, provoked mixed feelings.

In 1993, during a break in the Zoo TV Tour was recorded album Zooropa. He picked up the motives of Achtung Baby and Zoo TV Tour. Planned as an EP, it turned into a full LP, and was released in July 1993. This album is more deviated from the style of their previous records, and include elements of techno and electronic music. Most of the songs was played at least once on tour in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Japan, entrenched in the repertoire.
